A contemporary facility that responds to its heritage campus setting while creating a serene, inclusive environment for reflection, community and care.

The new Norwood Park facility is designed as a calm, non‑denominational place that welcomes all, positioned thoughtfully within the heritage campus it now joins. It sits quietly alongside the original structures, responding to their scale, material character and the surrounding landscape. The building emphasises its unique context with large picture windows that frame mountain vistas and draw soft natural light into key spaces, while the building’s orientation maximises solar exposure and creates a strong visual and environmental connection to the site. This approach ensures the addition feels both respectful of its context and clearly attuned to the sensitivities of the community it serves.

Inside, the building combines a series of spaces that support the sensitive work carried out on site, including cremation and viewing rooms, community areas, and associated offices. These functions are arranged to provide privacy where needed and connection where it matters, with circulation paths designed to feel intuitive and unobtrusive. Soft finishes, warm light and views to the surrounding landscape create a sense of calm for visitors and staff alike. The design emphasises clarity and comfort in every moment, setting the foundation for the detailed interior approach explored further below.

"It has turned out even better than I imagined, you have really put some thought into the small things that make so much difference to both internal and external customers.” ...“what you have provided for families and your staff is hands down the best I have seen in any crematorium I’ve been to"...“The viewing room is very well done, and aligned with the outdoor and kitchen area really presents a great alternative to combat the growing practice of no service cremations in my opinion.”

A thoughtful interior language shaped around comfort, dignity and the emotional needs of visitors and staff.

Throughout, the interiors are designed to provide clarity, comfort and dignity at every stage of the visitor journey. Circulation paths are simple and intuitive to reduce stress, and each space is shaped to feel calm and private while still connected to natural light and landscape views. A restrained palette of warm, subtle finishes creates a calming backdrop, while durable materials are detailed with care to support a setting that is both welcoming and robust. Texture, tone and lighting are used deliberately to soften the experience of circulation and waiting, and to create spaces that feel private without being closed in. The result is an environment that supports reflection and community while providing staff with a contemporary workplace that feels considered, respectful and quietly assured.
